Ce mercredi, nous sommes all\u00e9s au Akwesasne Culture Museum, o\u00f9 une dame nous a accueilli et expliqu\u00e9 l’histoire de la vie selon les Mohawk. Ensuite, nous l’avons suivi \u00e0 une exposition d’objets, de v\u00eatements et d’accessoires (chapeaux, ceintures, etc) en tout genre. Ce fut tr\u00e8s int\u00e9ressant et cela nous en a appris beaucoup plus sur cette population : on sait que les ceintures symbolisent la paix et l’amiti\u00e9 et que les Am\u00e9rindiens de cette r\u00e9gions fabriquent des paniers \u00e0 partir d’\u00e9corces d’arbres.<\/p>\n

Puis, nous sommes aller visiter le barrage hydro\u00e9lectrique qui se situe \u00e0 la fronti\u00e8re canadienne, il y a donc une partie am\u00e9ricaine et une autre canadienne. On a vu une vid\u00e9o sur l’histoire de ce barrage ainsi que de l’organisation am\u00e9ricaine Power Authority, c’est un barrage datant des ann\u00e9es 50 et qui permet de fournir \u00e0 l’\u00c9tat de New-York l’\u00e9lectricit\u00e9 n\u00e9cessaire. Nous avons ensuite essay\u00e9 plusieurs activit\u00e9s autour de l’\u00e9lectricit\u00e9, ce qui \u00e9tait plut\u00f4t amusant…<\/p>\n

Apr\u00e8s avoir \u00e9crit quelques mots sur le livre d’or du barrage, nous sommes partis au Massena Natural Center o\u00f9 nous avons d\u00e9couvert des poissons ainsi que beaucoup d’animaux empaill\u00e9s tels qu’une dinde, un faon ou encore une loutre. Il y a aussi eu plusieurs activit\u00e9s \u00e0 c\u00f4t\u00e9 tels que du Kapla ou encore une cam\u00e9ra grossissante qui permettait de regarder l’int\u00e9rieur des alv\u00e9oles d’une ruche. Plus tard, nous avons pu nous essayer au ski de fond (ou aux raquettes, \u00ab\u00a0snow shoes\u00a0\u00bb pour certains), ce fut tr\u00e8s amusant malgr\u00e9 quelques chutes. Nous avons conclu cette journ\u00e9e instructive et \u00ab\u00a0fun\u00a0\u00bb par un chocolat chaud (avec des marshmallows!).<\/p>\n

Today, we went to the Akwesasne Culture Museum, where a lady explained us history of creation and life for the Mohawks. Then we followed her into an exposition of different Mohawk objects such as clothes, belt, hats and baskets. It was really interesting and we got to know a lot more about them: we now know that belts are symbols for peace and friendship (for example). We also learned that their baskets are made out of natural splints and sweet grass, and that it has really become a cultural process, full of symbols and meaning, like for example gather different materials.<\/p>\n

Then we visited an hydroelectric barrage on the Canadian border (so there is a part on each country and the electricity produced is divided). We saw there a video about the barrage’s building and the organization Power Authority that rules the barrage. This barrage was built in the fifties and provides the state a big part of its electricity. Then we tried a bunch of different activities about electricity, which was quite fun.<\/p>\n

After writing a few words on the guestbook, we left for the Massena Natural Center where there were fishes and stuffed animals like a turkey, a fawn and an otter. There were also a few activities such as Kaplas and a zooming camera to see the inside of a beehive’s honeycombs. Then we tried cross-country ski (or snow shoes for some of us), and it was really amusing in spite of a few falls. We ended this day with a hot chocolate (with little marshmallows) at the Natural Center<\/p>\n\n\n\n
