After we packed our belongings and said goodbye to our host family, we took the coach at 8 o’clock to reach Hampton Court palace. On the way we stopped at Runnymede, it’s the place where Magna Carta was signed between King John and the barons in 1215 because they refused to make war and pay more taxes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After we went to Hampton Court palace. This building is a castle which is located in the south east of London. Its renovation started in 1514 but the biggest enlargement was made by Henry VIII in 1528. It extends on 300 hectares. Henry VIII had 6 wives and created Anglicanism. To wait for the opening of the castle, we walked on the bank of the Thames. At 10 we entered this beautiful red-brick building. We began the visit by Henry VIII’s apartments (the Great Hall, the Royal Chapel…).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since we were on November 11th, we had to remain silent for 2 minutes to pay tribute to the soldiers’ death during WW1. After we saw Henry VIII’s kitchen as it was in the past. We walked in the garden where we had our packed lunch and we ran into the vegetal labyrinth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At 12.45 we left Hampton Court to drive to Windsor. There we directly went to the station and we began our afternoon activity : a treasure hunt. This consisted in discovering the city of Windsor by answering many questions. So we saw the Windsor castle which was where the Queen stayed at the weekend, it was her favourite castle. When we finished at 4 o’clock we directly walked to the coach to go to Portsmouth and have dinner at Burger King. Then we took the coach again for a night crossing on the ferry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apr\u00e8s avoir rang\u00e9 nos affaires et dit au revoir \u00e0 notre famille d’accueil, nous avons pris le bus \u00e0 8 heures en direction d’Hampton Court. En chemin, nous nous sommes arr\u00eat\u00e9s \u00e0 Runnymede, o\u00f9 f\u00fbt sign\u00e9e la Grande Charte (Magna Carta) entre le roi Jean sans Terre et les barons en 1215. Ils ne voulaient plus faire la guerre, ni payer plus d’imp\u00f4ts. A l’endroit de la signature, nous avons jou\u00e9 la sc\u00e8ne tous ensemble.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ensuite nous sommes repartis pour le palais d’Hampton Court, situ\u00e9 au sud-ouest de Londres. La premi\u00e8re r\u00e9novation a d\u00e9but\u00e9 en 1514, mais la plus grande transformation a \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9alis\u00e9e en 1528 \u00e0 l’initiative d’Henri VIII. Ce palais s’\u00e9tend sur 300 hectares. Henri VIII eut 6 femmes et cr\u00e9a l\u2019\u00c9glise anglicane. En attendant l’ouverture du palais, nous nous sommes promen\u00e9s le long de la Tamise. A 10 heures, nous sommes entr\u00e9s dans ce beau b\u00e2timent de briques rouges. Nous avons d\u00e9but\u00e9 la visite par les appartements d’Henri VIII (le Grand Hall, la Chapelle royale…). En ce jour de 11 novembre, nous avons respect\u00e9 2 minutes de silence en hommage aux soldats morts lors de la Premi\u00e8re Guerre mondiale. Ensuite nous sommes all\u00e9s visiter les cuisines du palais qui ne semblaient pas avoir chang\u00e9 depuis l’\u00e9poque d’Henri VIII. Nous sommes pass\u00e9s par les jardins o\u00f9 nous avons mang\u00e9 nos pique-niques et couru dans le labyrinthe v\u00e9g\u00e9tal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nous sommes ensuite partis vers Windsor \u00e0 12h45. Une fois sur place, nous nous sommes aussit\u00f4t rendus \u00e0 la gare, o\u00f9 nous avons d\u00e9but\u00e9 notre activit\u00e9 de l’apr\u00e8s-midi : une chasse au tr\u00e9sor. Celle-ci consistait \u00e0 d\u00e9couvrir la ville de Windsor en r\u00e9pondant \u00e0 des questions. Nous avons donc pu voir le ch\u00e2teau de Windsor qui \u00e9tait la r\u00e9sidence de week-end de la Reine et son ch\u00e2teau pr\u00e9f\u00e9r\u00e9. Ensuite nous sommes revenus au bus vers 16 heures pour rejoindre Portsmouth et d\u00eener au Burger King. Nous avons repris le bus pour aller \u00e0 la gare maritime en vue d’une travers\u00e9e de nuit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
